Taura Smalls

Taura Smalls is a native Washingtonian with a deep connection to the community and a passion for ensuring children of color in D.C. have equitable access to educational opportunities.  Taura has been a lawyer for almost 20 years, and she has been serving as the Legislative Affairs Specialist for the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development, Office of the Director, for the last 12 years. In this role, she drafts proposed legislation and regulations for various programs and projects administered by the department.  She also responds to complex inquiries from Congress and the D.C. Council concerning legislation, programs, budgets, and constituent concerns. Previously, Taura served as an Investigator and Regional Coordinator for the US Department of Labor and a Senior Tax Consultant for Deloitte & Touche, LLP.

Taura earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law, and an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a native Washingtonian and a Ward 5 resident.
